Funeral services for Annabel M. Oswald, 103, who died Sunday, January 6, 2013, were January 10, 2013, at United Lutheran Church, Frost, with the Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Burial was at the chuch cemetery.
Annabel Marie Oswald was born July 12, 1909, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Adams) Bosma. She was raised and educated in Buffalo Center where she was a 1928 graduate of Buffalo Center High School. She earned her teaching certificate and taught at the Oswald School near Elmore prior to her marriage to Norman Oswald on August 27, 1930, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
The couple farmed at Pilot Grove, Dell and later at Frost for many years until retiring to Frost in 1966. Annabel taught Sunday School for manty years at Dell and United Lutheran, Frost and was very active in Ladies Aide and Circles. She grew many excellent vegetable and flower gardens and later enjoyed wintering with Norman in Mesa, Arizona. The couple loved to travel and had visited Germany, Norway, Mexico, Alaska and manmy other domestic locations. Her greatest joy was being with her family and staying connected to her extended family; she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Karkela, Savage; her son, Raymond (Pat) Oswald, Frost; her brother, Jim Bosma, Buffalo Center; her sister-in-law, Grace Bosma, Buffalo Center; her grandchildren: Tammy (Kevin) Greenfield, Jim (Deb) Oswald, Todd (Julie) Karkela, and KrisAnn (Tom) Krause, her great-grandchildren: Alicia, Melissa, Ryle, Thomas, Andrew and Mitchell and great-great-grandson, Logan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, in 1998, and 12 brothers and sisters: Lewis Bosma, Edward Bosma, Thomas Bosma, Marrie Horton, Heiko Bosma, Bert Bosma, Lillian Mastin, Bessie Weaver, Esther Mastin, Grace Hassebroek, Irene Burger and Clarence Bosma, and a son-in-law Willard Karkela.
