Funeral services for Constance (Connie) Helgeson, of Blue Earth, formerly of Frost, were Saturday, June 16, 2018, at South Blue Earth Lutheran Church, rural Bricelyn with the Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Burial was in the South Blue Earth cemetery. Connie died June 9, 2018, at United Hospital, Blue Earth.
Connie was born January 3, 1919 to Isaac and Ida (Peterson) Mundale in rural Frost. She graduated from Bricelyn high school in 1935. Following normal training in Blue Earth, she began her teaching career in a country school at age 17. While a young teacher, she met Earl Helgeson and they married in 1942. After her marriage she continued her education and received her bachelor's degree from Mankato State College in 1968. She taught in the Hollandale, Frost, and Blue Earth schools, retiring in 1983. She recalled that she loved teaching and felt really fortunate to have Earl's full support.
Connie was very active in community service and contributed in many ways to South Blue Earth Lutheran Church. She initiated the children's theater program in Frost and served for more than 20 years on the board of the Faribault County Historical Society. She traveled widely throughout the United States and overseas.
Connie is survived by her children, Christing (Adrian) Hodgson, of England, Richard (Kathy Huntington) Helgeson of Minneapolis; daughter-in-aw, Diane Helgeson of Savage; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Susan) Mundale; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; sobn, Bruce Helgeson; and her sister, Pauline (Sid) Sailor.
